The BDRC (Building Disaster Resilient Communities) initiative, supported by the Department for International Development (DFID), seeks to incorporate disaster risk reduction (DRR) into community development work, carried out by Christian Aid’s partners and ecumenical networks, using the sustainable livelihoods approach. Christian Aid is one of the biggest international development agencies in the world. It was formed and is still supported by the major Christian churches in the British Isles. Its headquarters are in London. It works with local partner organizations in over 70 countries around the world including the Philippines to help the world’s poorest communities. Christian Aid claims to work where the need is greatest, regardless of religion or race.

Christian Aid campaigns to change the rules and systems that keep people poor, speaking out on issues such as trade justice, climate change, and Third World debt. It is a major member of the Trade Justice Movement and Make Poverty History campaigns.

In the Philippines, Christian Aid helps the most vulnerable communities cope with disasters and adapt to the effects of climate change. They are also helping poor people in both rural and urban areas protect and claim their rights to homes, land, services and resources while funding organizations that are campaigning for more equitable national and international economic policies. Klima, formerly known as the Climate Change Information Center, was established in 1999 under the Climate Studies Division of the Manila Observatory at the Ateneo de Manila University as a joint venture of the Inter-Agency Committee on Climate Change (IACCC), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Energy (DOE) under the Philippine Climate Change Mitigation Program with funding assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

It is committed to share in this global effort. It envisions as a regional hub for East Asia, providing the fastest growing region in the world with the information and capacity it needs to act decisively on climate change.  It covers  the focal themes of climate science and impacts, adaptation, mitigation, and climate policy, it aims to: *Raise public awareness, conduct relevant research, and serve as a clearinghouse of climate-critical information, and *Train people and institutions through activities that stimulate hands-on learning on climate change issues. Read more…
